The Wheel Turns

I don’t think it’s anything secret to say that if you don’t learn from history (or maybe even if you do), that it will repeat. That’s exactly what this article posits about Gen Z’s unfortunate position in history where they are facing such a difficult world and finding it hard to hope in the face of that jut like many generations before. Maybe they can learn from that but history says, probably not.

I Hate Booktok

This piece touches on some of the problems I think many people (and especially me) are having with trying to engage with people who are reading or viewing things and the immediately can only view them through very specific lenses. Namely either fandom or consumerism. I think my personal argument converges where the writers does as well, we have to evaluate things on multiple levels, but especially asking if a piece of media is doing what it intended. There are plenty of things in this world that are well made and say what they want to say that I don’t like but for some reason that cannot exist in most folks rubric.

Well For One, It’s Not Ancient

I remember the first time that I heard that you could see the Great Wall of China from space and as a kid who was pretty interested in the actual science of going to space I thought that could not be true but it was so oft repeated that I took it as just being a skeptic. But in this video from Past Present he outlines the many intentional and unintentional things we believe about the Great Wall of China.

Do Not Do Evil, Google

While a lot of AI generated responses from Google aren’t actually being pushed to the EU (knock on wood) and Google is being sued when they do show up (see lawsuits in Germany over reputation), it’s still important to understand how Google’s ship turn to forcing AI over search effects its ability to be a useful tool and company and how it will change the web.

Support Artists. That is All.

I like to end on a nice not and this month is no different. Not only does this page of folklore and myths give me the good vibe because it likely looks nearly identical to how it did in 1996 but it also contains a lot of very cool…myths and folklores that are just freely available to anyone. There is something so charming and amusing about pages and stories on the internet being called “electronic texts” that I kind of want to bring it back. What do you think?
